Winston Joseph Sparks, 66, of New Paris, OH, passed away Tuesday morning, May 24, 2011. Mr. Sparks retired in 1996 after 31 yrs. with Dana Perfect Circle in Richmond, IN. He proudly served with the US Army in the 1960's in the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, with the peacekeeping force in the Dominican Republic. He was a member and former Commander with American Legion Post #360 in New Paris and was a former American Legion County Commander for Preble. A beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he especially enjoyed watching the grandchildren participate in sport activities. Preceded in death by parents Richard & Naomi (Fields) Uhrig. Survived by wife Edna H. (Saunders) Sparks whom he married September 10, 1965: sons Joseph Darrin Sparks & wife Delores of Muncie, IN; Michael Shawn Sparks & wife Loretta of Greenville, OH; and Jason Corey Sparks of New Paris: grandchildren Dustin, Brittney, Cody, Jordan, Ashley, Alexis, Skyler, Larissa and Xander: 2 step grandchildren Tyra and Brandon: 2 great great grandchildren Titus and Ellie: brothers and sisters Bill Sparks of Greenville; Millie Lee of Colorado, Priscilla Stolle of Troy, OH; and Kent Uhrig of Hollonsburg, OH: and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call on the family from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria, OH. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday at the Funeral Home with Pastors Lowell T. Spencer and Robbie Gibson presiding. Mil;itary Honors will be provided by the Preble County Honor Guard.
