Wilma Nell Taft, age 96, of Eaton, OH, went to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, August 27, 2016. Born April 24, 1920, in Nixon Chapel, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Furman & Ocie (Hambrick) Norton. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she grew up on a farm and had to quit school in the fifth grade to helped on the farm with picking cotton, and other crops; helping with livestock; etc.. As a wife she also ran a diner, gas station, and grocery store with her husband. During the war she worked in a Cotton Mill, and later, while living in Detroit, she worked at Dell Plastics. She was a hard worker and could do anything from sewing and cutting hair, to giving perms to shoveling snow. All of her life she enjoyed and owned animals of all sorts, including a monkey, parakeet, squirrels, dogs, cats, peacocks, guinea hens, humming birds, ducks, goats, cows, chickens, horses, any other animal in distress. She loved to garden and worked daily in her yard, up until the end of her life. She was a great southern cook, and her fried chicken, desserts, pies, and massive breakfast were her trademarks. She was nicknamed "Florence Nightingale" for her ability to help and nurse family and friends in their need. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by Husband of 53 years James Roscoe Taft, brothers Grady, Bryon and Norris Norton: and sister Mabel Roden Survived by children James David (Lydia) Taft of New Port, MI; and Shirley (Dan) May of Eaton; 5 grandchildren Deborah Baker, Timothy May, James Taft (Erin), Mark May (Peggy) and David Taft, and 6 great grandchildren; Stephen Baker (Heather), Nicole Taft, Sarah Baker, Keeley Taft, Selina Taft and Grace May, and 4 Great-great grandchildren; Valen Baker, Ava Baker, Aedyn Baker and Amaris Baker, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation to be held on Wednesday August 31, 2016 from Noon- 1:00 PM at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center- 3377 US RT 35 E, West Alexandria- Funeral service to be held at 1:00PM at the Funeral Home. Pastor Elbert Sorrell presiding. Burial at Hillcrest Cemetery in Boaz, AL.
