William "Bill" Lee Whipp, 77, of Tipp City, OH, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 following an extended illness. Born June 24, 1939 in Dayton, OH, he was a son of the late Raymond E. and Ethel Leona (Boomershine) Whipp. He was a 1957 graduate of Farmersville High School and had his own band called the B.W. Saints from 1956 - 1974. After High School, Bill also enlisted in the Air Force Reserve, serving for ten years during the Cold War, and was called to active duty for one month during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He worked many jobs during his life including working as an accountant in Farmersville, Dayton and Springfield; was a plant accountant controller in Jackson Center, Tipp City and Dayton; a hardware store owner in Osgood and Minster, OH; was a past member and past president of the Tipp City Zoning Board; and held numerous positions with the Tipp City Chamber of Commerce. His love of music, playing clarinet and saxaphone, continued into his later years as he played in numerous community bands. His favorite hobby was traveling, whether it was trips with family and friends to Hilton Head, SC, Gatlinburg, TN, Big Ship Cruises, or earlier years camping with his wife and children. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by grandson Phillip Rindler; sister Phyllis Shartle; and brothers-in-law Roy Craig and Harry Shartle; father-in-law Adolph Smith; mother-in-law Loraine Smith; and brothers-in-law James Smith and Bert Sherman. Bill is survived by his wife Patricia Lee Whipp whom he married January 28, 1961 in Germantown, OH; children Elizabeth "Beth" Rindler of Troy, OH; Raymond "Scott" Whipp and wife Crystal of Waverly, OH; and Cristal Kremer and husband Raymond of St. Augustine, FL; granddaughters Stephanie Whipp, Kelly (Matt) Hurley, Courtney Kremer, Caitlyn Kremer; grandsons Paul (Maggie) Rindler, Joshua Rindler, Collin Kremer; 3 great grandchildren; brother Wendell Whipp of Dayton; sister Barbara Craig of Checotah, OK; brothers-in-law Leroy (Connie) Smith and Mike (Roxann) Smith; and sister-in-law Diana Sherman. Friends may call on the family from 2:00 - 4:00 PM Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Miami Valley Hospice.
