Thelma M. Hartley, age 94, a long time Fountain City, IN resident, who also lived at Lake Lakengren in Eaton, OH for many years, passed away peacefully March 11, 2018, at Rosebud Village Nursing Care Center in Richmond, IN. Thelma was born May 9, 1923, in Richmond, IN, the first of seven children to parents Donald and Wyvona (Hyde) Windle. She graduated from Richmond High School in 1941. She was a devoted wife and mother, who truly loved and enjoyed her family and friends. She enjoyed her years of softball and bowling for the Belden Corp. teams. She was a pioneer for women in stock car racing as a Powder Puff Derby driver in the late 1940's. She had an enthusiasm for sports and enjoyed watching baseball, football and automobile racing. She was united in marriage to Joseph E. Hartley on October 17, 1953, and retired from Belden Corp. in 1987 after 30 years of service. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 54 years, Joseph E. Hartley in 2008, brothers Robert Windle, James Windle, Dale Windle and her sister Beverly (Windle) Lamb, and a grandson Kevin Hartley. She is survived by her sons, Ronald K. Hartley of Canton, SD and Joseph K. Hartley of New Paris, OH. Grandson Chad D. Hartley and Great-Grandson Jeffery D. Hartley both of Broken Arrow, OK. Two brothers, Larry Windle and sister-in-law Cyndee Windle of Loxley, AL. And Donald Windle and sister-in-law Lois Windle of Big Cabin, OK. Along with several nephews and nieces. Thelma wanted to offer her deepest gratitude and un-ending love to her family, friends and her end of life caregivers for sharing life with her. Friends may call on the family from 1:00 - 2:00 PM Friday, March 16, 2018 at The Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria, OH. the funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Care Hospice or the Salvation Army. Burial Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery, West Alexandria.
