Sterling Jacob Bateman Jr.

Sterling Jacob Bateman, Jr., 82, of Lebanon, OH and formerly of New Lebanon, OH, passed away Sunday evening, November 18, 2018. Born December 2, 1935 in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of the late Sterling J., Sr. and Vera (Rousey) Bateman. He served in the US Army from 1956 - 1958, spending nearly 10 months in Germany. Sterling worked as a painter, carpenter and pipe fitter and eventually retired in1998 from Fraser Papers, Inc. of West Carrollton. He was a longtime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by wife of 27 years Joan S. (Neville) Bateman on December 4, 1994; and half brothers Joe and Bennie Bateman. Survived by wife Paula M. (Peters) Bateman whom he married May 15, 2000; children Louann Bateman of Dayton, Nancy Gerrin and husband Rick of Cornelia, GA, Tina Walden of FL, and David Bateman; step children Melinda K. Hall and husband Dustin of Hebron, KY and Aaron Dollahite and wife Mara of Idaho; several grandchildren; step mother Ruth Bateman Orr of NC and half sister Susan Bateman, also of NC. Friends may call on the family from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - 220 Wayne Trace Rd. - Eaton, OH. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM at the church. Following services, a procession will lead to Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery, where a brief closing ceremony will take place at the graveside, followed by the presentation of Military Honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard.
