Ronald Daum

Ronald E. Daum, 63, of Eaton, OH, passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 22, 2010. Born June 11, 1947, he was the son of Robert Russell & Bernice Luella (Lee) Daum. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served with the US Army from March of 1967 - December 1968 and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Ron retired in 2001 as a heavy equipment operator from the City of Eaton Street Department after 27 years of service; had operated R & B Backhoe Service for many years and also previously worked at Vaniman Lumber Company. He was a former Cub Scout Leader and 4-H Advisor; enjoyed classic cars and car shows; model railroading; member of the Wayne County Railroad Society; and served as a volunteer for Whispering Christmas at Fort St. Clair for many years. His family was his greatest joy and he especially loved playing with his grandchildren. Survived by wife Rebecca Jane (Bales) Daum; daughter Katie Miller & husband Corey of Eaton; son Alex Daum & wife Kristi of Eaton; grandchildren Dawson, Breeanna and Colton Daum; mother Bernice Daum of Richmond, IN; sister Georgianna Doty of Williamsburg, IN; nieces Renee Doty of Williamsburg, Gina Waddle of New Paris, OH and Christie Anderson & husband John of MA; nephews Brian Doty & wife Michelle of Richmond, KY and Brian Beck & wife Quimby of CA; sister-in-law Sharon Beck & husband Gene of Indianapolis, IN; brother-in-law Everett Koontz of Salem, OR; great nieces and nephews Brenden and Chloe Waddle of New Paris, Matthew and Campbell Doty of Richmond, KY, Cole and Nate Anderson of MA and Samantha and Parker Beck of CA. Preceded in death by father Robert Daum; sister-in-law Damaris Koontz; and brother-in-law Gary Doty. Friends may call on the family from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Monday, September 27, 2010 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria. Funeral services 11:00 AM Tuesday at the funeral home, Pastor Bob Meckley presiding.
