Roger W. Owens, Sr.

79, of West Alexandria, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family and friends on Saturday, September 14, 2024.

He was born November 27, 1944, in Dayton, to the late George W. “Jack” and Denelden E. (Jones) Owens.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Leslie and Joe Johnston; brother, John Owens Sr.; sister-in-law, Patty Owens; brother-in-law, Frank Summers; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Lucy Tidwell; brother-in-law, Mike Tidwell; and niece, Melissa Harrison.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Brenda J. (Tidwell) Owens; son, Roger Owens II; daughter, Michelle (Marty) Owens; grandchildren, Jessica (Wade) Butler, LaKota (Kevin) Hitchcock, Tanner (Emma) Pinkerton, Addison Owens, Alexandria (Drew) Owens, and Adrianna Owens; great grandchildren, Wesley, Josey, and Emma Butler and Amelia and Rory Hitchcock; brother, George Owens; sisters, Linda Summers and Alma Creigh; sisters-in-law, Pat (Ronnie) Davis, Nancy Meyers, and Sandra Owens; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Randy and Karen Ehler and Ann and Christina Banks; and the many kids throughout the years he was papaw to.

Roger retired from the Teamsters in 2008 and began spending time with his great grandkids.  He was a simple man who loved his family and friends.

The family would like to give a special “Thank You” to Dr. Cimpeanu and staff at the Kettering Cancer Center and to Roger’s home health nurse, Ashley.

A visitation will be held Saturday, September 21 from 1PM to 4PM at PREBLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL CENTER, West Alexandria.  The funeral service will begin at 4PM with Roger Owens II officiating.
