Roberta A. Darney

Roberta A. Darney, 78, of Union, OH, passed away Thursday morning, July 9, 2015 following a lengthy illness. Born December 24, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Clifford & Pauline (Kelly) Edwards. A 1954 graduate of West Elkton High School, she worked at NCR in Dayton from 1955 - 1958. She met the love of her life James G. Darney in 1957 and married him on November 8, 1958. She worked for General Motors in Dayton from 1962 - 1965, when she turned her attention to being a stay at home mom. In 1977, she entered the Dayton School of Practical Nursing. Following graduation, she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton until 1999. After the birth of her granddaughter in 1998, she retired from nursing and returned home to babysit. Roberta loved the outdoors, camping and vacationing in Myrtle Beach. An animal lover, she would often donate to the Humane Society and other charitable organizations. Family and friends knew she was a big fan of James Dean and classic movies. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death on May 26, 2010 by husband James Darney. Survived by daughters Erin Darney & companion Gary Cowell; Theresa Cousins & husband Chris; and Nancy Franer & husband Art; granddaughter Lauren: brothers and sisters Dale Edwards, Sharon Trivedi, David Edwards and Paula Smith. Friends may call on the family from 2:00 - 4:00 pm Monday, July 13, 2015 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria.
