Robert W. Motes, 92, of New Lebanon, OH, passed away late Friday evening December 4, 2020 at Brookdale Centennial Park in Englewood. Born April 14, 1928 in Shell Mount, TN, he was the youngest and last of eight surviving children of the late Robert J. and Lillie (Goins) Motes. After giving birth to her ninth child, both Lillie and the baby passed away. The older children looked after the younger ones so the family could stay together. Robert was a member of the Ohio Operating Engineers Union, and worked as a bulldozer operator for over 30 years with Earl D. Creager Construction of Dayton. He loved horses and raised and kept horses on his farm in TN, and enjoyed hunting. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by children Don, Donna Jean and Gary; wives Ruth Motes on April 7, 2006 and Barbara Motes in August 29, 2019; and brothers and sisters Hubert, Elmer Emory, Pete, Charlie, Lucy, India and Josephine. Robert is survived by children Robert L. Motes of New Lebanon, Debra Pogue and husband Eddie of New Lebanon, Ron Motes of New Lebanon and Cathy Motes; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Friends are invited to call on the family from 10:00 am - 11:00 am Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35, West Alexandria, OH. A short service will begin at 11:00 am at the funeral home and conclude with entombment at Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
