Richard L. Weikert,, age 76, of West Manchester, OH and formerly of Dayton, OH, a US Navy veteran of the Korean War, settled into God's Land on Thursday evening, October 14, 2010. Born August 1, 1934, he retired in 1995 as a self-employed painter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and cooking for his family. Member of the Ridge Church in Brookville, OH and Life Member of VFW Post 5018 of Dayton. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles K. & Florence V. (Kennel) Weikert: son Mark A. Weikert on January 24, 2009: granddaughter Traci Weikert: brothers John, Charles, Jr. and Tom Weikert: and sister Carole Smith. Survived by wife Marlene (Mitchell) Weikert whom he married August 28, 1955: children Vickie Castor & husband Ted of West Manchester and Michael Weikert & wife Anne of Wilmington, OH: grandchildren Jennifer Slusser & husband Aaron of Eaton, Jason, Shane, Josh & wife Shannon; and Ashley Weikert: great grandchildren Andrew and Victoria Slusser, Alex, Aliya and Joshy, Jr.: sister Janet Delaplane & husband Roy of CA: special hunting buddy who was like a son, Dick Hocfbaum of St. Paris, OH: numerous caring nieces and nephews: beloved dogs Spuds, Molly, Longjohn and Ginger. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria. Pastor Gary Wilkins presiding.
