Raymond C. Jones

Raymond C. Jones, 92, of Eaton, OH, passed away peacefully Friday morning, October 14, 2016 at his home. Raymond was born February 3, 1924 in Greenville, TN, he was the son of the late Gideon W. "Gid" & Penelope "Neppie" (Noe) Jones. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by wife of 62 years, Evelyn (Bowser) Jones in 2008; granddaughter Amanda Jones Smith; 2 half brothers and 5 half sisters. A US Army veteran of WW II, Raymond served with the 348th Quartermaster Supply Company in battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. For 40 years, Raymond worked as a book binder and job setter for Dayton Press / McCall's in Dayton. After McCall's closed, he went to work for the Early Bird Newspaper and was in charge of circulation. He had also worked at Key Printing, and later in life, as a Greeter at the WalMart in Eaton. An active member of Masonic organizations, he was a member of Camden Masonic Lodge #159, Scottish Rite, Commandry, Blue Lodge, Chapter, Council, Tall Cedars, Eastern Star, and was an advisor for Demolay. A longtime faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Eaton, he was also a member of American Legion Post #665 of West Manchester. Raymond also volunteered in disaster relief for the American Red Cross. Survivors include wife Sunnye R. (Mason) Gardner-Jones whom he married October 17, 2009: children Ronald R. Jones & wife Donna of Jacksonville, FL;, Donald L. Jones & wife Marian of Eaton; Sharon L. Smith & husband Greg of Davisburg, MI; Keith C. Jones & wife Chris of Eaton; Timothy F. Jones & wife Debbie of Englewood, FL: 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren: sister Ruth E. Louth of Dayton. Raymond was a warm and outgoing man who never met a stranger. He had many close friends too numerous to mention; and special friend Dallas Montgomery. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria. Pastor Lowell T. Spencer will officiate. Services will conclude at the graveside with a brief closing ceremony, followed by presentation of the military honors by the Preble County Honor Guard and the US Army. Friends may call on the family from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Blue lodge and Scottish Rite Ring Ceremonies will begin at 7:45 PM Tuesday.
