Raymond J. Gilbert, Sr.

Died at Reid Health, Thursday, July 6, 2023.

He was the son of Donald F. and Rosie L. (Good) Gilbert, and married Judith (Harper) Gilbert on June 19, 1987 in Richmond, Indiana.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his son, Raymond Gilbert, Jr. on November 24, 2022; brother, Dan Gilbert in 1993; and grandson, Alan Michael Thompson in 1988.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Gilbert; daughter, Kimberly E. Thompson; stepsons, Kenneth (Lisa) Charles, Jr. and Douglas Charles; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren with one due in September; siblings, Donald Gilbert and Linda (Wayne) Shoemaker; and many cousins.

He retired from International Paper in Eaton, Ohio in 2009.

Ray's love for his country was unwavering, and he was a true patriot. He held strong opinions on politics and was never hesitant to express his views. While his passionate debates may have sparked lively discussions, his dedication to the principles he held dear served as a reminder of his unwavering commitment to what he believed was right.

Above all, Ray will be remembered for the love he showered upon his family. His role as a husband, father, and grandpa brought him immeasurable joy and fulfillment. He took pride in witnessing his children and grandchildren grow, offering unwavering support, guidance, and boundless love throughout their journeys. His legacy of love and devotion will continue to live on through the generations he leaves behind.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 11 from 11AM to 1PM at PREBLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL CENTER, 3377 US Route 35 East, West Alexandria, OH 45381.  The funeral service will begin at 1PM with Pastor Jerry Carter officiating and burial following at Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery, West Alexandria.
