Nancy Burnett

Nancy L. Burnett, 77, of West Alexandria, OH, formerly of New Lebanon, OH and former 3 year resident of Heartland of Eaton, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening, January 22, 2013, at Sterling House of Englewood. Born in a blizzard on her grandparents farm (Ed & Clara (Hull) Steck) on Amity Rd. in Brookville, OH to the late William & Frances (Rether) Steck. A 1954 graduate of Dixie High School in New Lebanon and a 1958 graduate of Ohio State University. She worked as a middle school teacher at Lebanon, OH schools, taught music at Dixie Middle School, and was a substitute teacher later in her career, retiring in 1992. She was a lifelong member of St. Peters Lutheran Church of New Lebanon where she was a former member of the Chancel Choir, the Alter Guilde, Church Council, and served as Past President of Dorcas Circle. She was a member and Past President of Montgomery County Silver Star, member and Past President of the Dixie Homemakers, and was involved with the Montgomery County Home Extension Office; member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau, and member of the OSU Alumni Assn. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband Ellsworth G. Burnett in 2010: son Kevin Steck in 1991; and in laws Omer & Ethel Burnett. Survived by son Gregg Burnett of West Alexandria: Kevin's former wife Sandy Jackson & husband Scott of Gahanna, OH: sister Carol Schreiber & husband Bill of New Lebanon: grandchildren Drew, Joseph and Ellie: nephews Dean Schreiber, Dan Schreiber, and niece Mindy Mayberry: great, and great great nieces and nephews: beloved pets Zeena, Stanley, Sandy and John: and many friends at Heartland of Eaton. Friends may call on the family from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wed., January 30, 2013 at St. Peters Lutheran Church - 8990 W. Third St. - New Lebanon. Pastors Christopher Carr and Bobbie Predmore presiding.
