Mollie Blacker, 92, formerly of 424 East Somers Street, died March 24, 2013 at Heartland of Eaton after an extended illness. She was born October 22, 1920 in London, Ky. to Julius and Flaura Robinson Hacker. She attended McGuffey School in Oxford as well as schools in Liberty and Brookville, Indiana, graduating from Union High School in College Corner in 1938. She married Harley Blacker September 19, 1941. She and Harley farmed around the Eaton and Preble County area most of their married lives. While Harley worked at Miami University she took care of the home and watched over the farm. She was also employed in numerous other jobs because she loved to work and be around people. She was a member of the Eaton First Presbyterian Church since 1967. As a member she served as Clerk of Session for 8 ½ years and as a Church Elder. She also was an associate member of the Preble County Chapter of the Public Employee Retirees. Survivors include two sons, John Blacker of West Alexandria, Ohio, Glen Blacker (Pam) of Eaton, one daughter Carol Volkerding (Richard) of Centerville, Ohio; 3 grandchildren Kristin Volkerding Belcher, Amy Blacker and Sarah Blacker Worley, 6 great grandchildren, two sisters Geneva Frazee (Kenny) of College Corner and Lula Back of Zephyrhills Florida, one brother John Hacker (Judy) of Eaton; one sister-in-law Freda Burns of Richmond Indiana; nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Harley Blacker, grandson Brian Volkerding, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. The family thanks Heartland of Eaton for the thoughtful care that was given to Mollie during her 8 years as a resident. Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 28 at Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria , with the Rev. Wayne D. Morrison officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens. Friends may call one hour before the service Thursday at the funeral center. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
