Mike Urban
63, of West Alexandria, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
He was born March 30, 1961, in Rockford, Illinois, to the late Jerry Urban and Diane E. (Welch) McCombs.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his daughter, Brandie Urban; brother, Bob Urban, and best friend and brother-in-law, Doug Erwin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Penny Urban; daughters, Amanda (Tina McKinney) Hickey and Alisa (Mike Brush) Hickey; grandchildren, Scotty (Sarah Frost) Kramer, Jayden (Megan Bethel) Hickey, and Gracie and Olivia Smyer; great grandson, Sebastian; siblings, Teddy (Dawn), Debbie, Tammy, and Joey (Kathy); nephews; and many more family and friends.
Mike was a man of boundless talent and passion, whose love for life shone through everything he did. He was a certified mechanic with an extraordinary gift for working with his hands, able to fix anything from the smallest household gadget to the most complex engine. His love for hot rods and building engines defined much of his life, and there wasn’t a car he couldn’t restore or make roar.
Mike's passion for tinkering extended beyond the garage. He was a devoted gamer, spending hours immersed in the world of video games, and he had a knack for RC cars, always finding new ways to make them faster, louder, and more fun. He was a man who loved challenges, and his mind was always working—whether it was tuning up a car or figuring out how to beat the next level in his favorite game.
Known for his infectious energy and mischievous spirit, Mike earned the nickname "Captain Ruckus," a name that reflected his larger-than-life personality and his ability to bring laughter and joy to everyone around him. To his family and friends, he was not just a mechanic or a gamer; he was the go-to guy, the problem-solver, the one who could always be counted on to help, fix, or lighten the mood.
