Lloyd E. Hapner, 97, of Eaton, OH, passed away early Sunday morning, January 10, 2021 at Hospice of Dayton. Born October 3, 1923, he was the son of the late Earl and Goldie (Gregg) Hapner. A WWII veteran, he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant as an airplane crew chief and airplane flight chief with the Army Air Corp. Shortly after being discharged in November of 1945, he served with the Air National Guard into 1952. On November 25, 1943, he married his sweetheart, Doris J. Hewitt. Lloyd retired as a screw machine operator after he worked for 35 years for NCR in Dayton, then went to work for ODOT retiring again after 11 years. During the mid 1950's into the early 60's, he worked as an auxiliary police officer for the Ohio Highway Patrol in Preble and Darke Counties and as an auxiliary officer for the Preble County Sheriff's Department. Lloyd was a 70 year member of American Legion Post 665 of West Manchester; served for 20 years as a member of the Preble County Honor Guard; a member of Eaton Senior citizens; and was a long time attendee of the Eaton Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death on March 29, 2014 by beloved wife Doris J. Hapner; son Steven E. Hapner on May 24, 2018; and a stillborn infant son. Lloyd is survived by son Charles B. Hapner and wife Nancy of New Paris, OH; daughter-in-law Linda Hapner of Ainsworth, NE; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. As with Doris, Lloyd had chosen for his services to be at the graveside only. The family has chosen his services to be private and at their convenience.
