New Lebanon

Larry G. Strawser

81, of New Lebanon, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, April 8, 2023.

He was born in Brookville, Ohio to the late Harry B. Strawser, who was killed in action during World War II, and Dorothy E. (Good) Terrill.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his stepfather, Seldon Terrill; and siblings, Mike Terrill, Patty Pound, and Marvin Terrill.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Zula (Wilson) Strawser, whom he greatly adored; children, Tammy (Bill Staud) Hobbs, DeDe (Terry Townsend) Vencill, and Terry (Cyndie) Strawser; grandchildren, Kyle and Kayla Vencill, Brodie Strawser, and Samantha Benns; great grandchildren, Bryson, Zoee, Arya, Gabriel, and Oliver; brothers, Bob (Val) Strawser and Jim (Betty) Terrill; and best friends, Pastor Jerry and Betty Carter.

As a beloved member of the First Baptist Church in West Alexandria, Larry served as both an assistant pastor and deacon.  Beyond his passion for ministry, he was also known for his love of music. He had a special place in his heart for southern rock and southern gospel music, and could often be found singing along to his favorite tunes. Larry also had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for his dad jokes. He had a unique ability to make those around him laugh and was always willing to share a smile with anyone who needed it. His positivity and warmth will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  Larry had a love for the outdoors, especially for fishing. He would often spend his weekends casting a line and enjoying the peace and serenity of the water. He had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and found solace in its quiet moments.  However, above all else, Larry loved the Lord. His faith was an integral part of his life, and he lived each day with a humble and steadfast devotion to his beliefs. He shared his faith with others through his work in the church and his interactions with those around him, always striving to show kindness, love, and compassion to everyone he met.  Although we mourn the loss of Larry, we take comfort in the knowledge that he is now in the presence of his Heavenly Father. We will never forget the impact he had on our lives, and we will continue to honor his memory by living out the values he held so dear.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 11 from 10AM to 12PM at First Baptist Church of West Alexandria, 6062 Ivy Lane, West Alexandria, 45381.  The funeral service will begin at 12PM with Pastor Jerry Carter officiating.  Burial will follow at Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery, West Alexandria.
