Joseph Anthony McMurray, 66, of West Alexandria, OH, passed into eternity on Thursday morning, May 9, 2019, after a hard fought extended illness. Joe was born on November 17, 1952, the oldest of three children born to the late Bill M. and Wanda L. (Brannon) McMurray. A talented guitarist from an early age, he loved to play and earned a certificate to teach guitar. Mechanically inclined, he enjoyed working on older cars and had completed a number of restorations over the years. In his working years, he had worked at different tool and die shops, and, most recently for Neaton Auto Parts in Eaton. In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by son Joseph A. McMurray, II in 1988. Survived by children Julie Schroth and husband Jason of Moraine, Jeremy McMurray of West Alexandria, and Travis McMurray of Eaton; grandchildren Corey Schroth, Courtney Schroth and Cali Schroth; brother Donald McMurray and wife Sheri of Eaton; sister Linda Wathen and husband Chuck of West Alexandria; aunts Dorothy McMurray of West Alexandria and Mary Jackson of Columbus, IN; along with numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. A service to acknowledge the passing and honor the life of Joe will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, May 18 at Grace Brethren Community Church - 3110 US Rt. 35 E. - West Alexandria. Pastor Elbert Sorrell presiding. Burial of cremated remains will follow at Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
