John M. Newkirk, age 66 of Eaton, Ohio passed away Sunday May 21, 2017 at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. Born December 12, 1950 he was a son to the late Benjamin & Ruth ( Marquis) Newkirk. John was a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served his country over 20 years, including Operation Desert Storm. He was a member of the VFW post # 8066 & Eagles post # 4289. He was a softball umpire for over 30 years, and worked the yardage chains for Eaton high school football games. He enjoyed bowling, golf, and spending time with family and friends. John never met a stranger, he will be truly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Robert Boerner; Francis Newkirk & Darrell Newkirk. Survived by wife Melissa (Hardwick) Newkirk, whom he married in 1985: children Monica Bulach of Eaton, OH ; John Newkirk, Jr. of Eaton, OH; David Skaggs of Centerville, IN ; Steven Skaggs of Centerville, IN ; Becky Skaggs of Centerville, IN; : brother Timothy Newkirk of Jonesboro, AR: 10 grandchildren: 1 great-grandchild: along with numerous other close friends and family members. Friends may call on the family from 5:00- 8:00 PM Thursday May 25, 2017 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center - West Alexandria- Funeral service Friday May 26, 2017 at 11:00 with pastor Warren Reichart presiding. Burial Preble Memory Gardens. Online condolences www.rlcfc.com.
