John M. Maddin, Jr.,71 of West Alexandria, OH passed away on Monday evening May 17, 2021. Born June 21, 1949 in Amburgey, KY, he was the eldest son of 9 children born to the late John M. Maddin, Sr. and Dorothy (Watkins) Maddin. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brother Jimmy and sister Carol. John served one tour of duty in Vietnam with the US Army as a helicopter machine gunner. He became a member of American Legion Post 322 of West Alexandria. John retired in 1992 after 32 years working at the Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors. He was a talented wood worker who made cabinets, end tables, tv tables, record stands and a keeper cabinet for his home and for others. He worked for several years for Kitchen Solvers in Brookville; enjoyed hunting and formerly participated in turkey shoots. He loved vegetable gardening and was proud of raising the tastiest Brandywine tomatoes, and loved it when his grandchildren were visiting. John is survived by his wife of 34 years Faye (Wentworth) Maddin whom he married November 17, 1986; daughter Jennifer L. Maddin of Manhattan, New York; step children Shonda Martin and husband Morris of Arcanum and Aaron Dixon and wife Tammy of Trotwood; grandchildren Brandon Martin, Sarah Groff, Drake Dixon and Nicole Mitchell; great grandchildren Graham, Nora, Everley, Oliver, Zenith and Aaden; brother and sisters Gary, Alberta, Billie Jean, Sarah, Nancy and Debbie. Graveside services will begin at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery, West Alexandria, beginning with the presentation of military honors and followed by a brief funeral service.
