John L. Kimball
81, of West Alexandria, passed away from the effects of Agent Orange, on Thursday, June 20, 2024 with his loving family by his side.
He was born January 3, 1943, in Hamilton, to the late Mark R. and Rosara H. (Walter) Kimball.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, George “Moe” Kimball; sister, Heidi (David) Touw; and brothers-in-law, Will Howard and Bob Menke.
John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joyce Kimball; children, Jonathon (Tammy) Kimball, Julie (Doug) Wooton, Joni O’Connor, and Joneil Kimball; grandchildren, Suzanne (Mitch), Rachael (Michael), Alison, Dylan, Corryn (Blake), Marissa (Dylan), Brenden, Isabell, and Jasper; great-granddaughter, Marleigh; siblings, Paul (Teresa) Kimball, Joseph (Rita) Kimball, Chris Howard, Mary Menke, and Esther (Phil) Hendrich; numerous nieces and nephews; and many more family and friends.
John graduated from Dixon-Israel High School in 1961, where was an active member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA). His passion for agriculture and farming began during these formative years, shaping his lifelong commitment to the land and livestock.
John bravely served his country as a soldier in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His service was marked by courage and a sense of duty, qualities that defined his character throughout his life.
Returning home, John embarked on a fulfilling career as a grain and livestock farmer, tending to the fields and animals with meticulous care. In addition to his farming pursuits, he applied his skills as an electrician, ensuring that homes and businesses in the community had reliable power.
Upon retirement, John found happiness in life's simple pleasures, enjoying his days at home with loved ones. He pursued his passion for vintage machinery, particularly as a collector of John Deere tractors, which brought him great satisfaction.
A visitation will be held Monday, June 24 from 5-7PM at PREBLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL CENTER, West Alexandria. The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 25 at 10AM at the funeral center with his son, Jonathon Kimball officiating. Burial will follow at Quaker Ridge Cemetery, (corner of Israel-Somers Road and Kenworthy Road) Camden.
