John D. Ashley, Sr., 67, formerly of Preble County, OH, of Tipp City, OH, passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, January 29, 2013 surrounded by his family. Born in Breathitt County, KY, he was a son of the late Woodrow & Lora (Campbell) Ashley. John worked as a block and brick mason from an early age, working in Ohio, Indiana, and many other states. He served with the Army National Guard and enjoyed fishing and hunting. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers and sisters Ova Ashley, Cecil Ashley, Marie Roope and Woodrow Junior Ashley. Survived by wife Betty B. (Brannon) Ashley, whom he married February 5, 1964: son & daughter-in-law John D., Jr. and Rebecca Ashley of Christiansburg, OH: daughter & son-in-law Brandy & Ryan Barko of Tipp City: 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren: sisters and brother Dorothy Webb of Vandalia, OH; Ada Grubb of West Alexandria, OH; Ora Ashley of West Milton, OH; Mary Jo Brannon of Eaton, OH: and numerous nieces and nephews. A gathering for both family and friends is scheduled from 2:00 - 5:00 PM Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria.
