Jerry Francis Wysong, of Richmond, Ind., passed away on Dec. 1, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Jerry was born on Christmas Day in 1944 and it’s no surprise that with such a birthday, he was a gift and a joy to those who knew him.
While he had a somewhat quiet personality, he was still known to crack a subtle joke or tell a great story. A skill he undoubtedly picked up during his studies at the University of Indiana or Clark State. He wasn’t a young man on campus, either. He quit his day job at 36 in order to receive several degrees from each campus, respectively.
If you worked at Eaton’s Parker Hannifin, you may have spotted Jerry, who is what his family might call the ‘Parker patriarch’ — five generations of Wysongs have worked or are working at the local factory.
Jerry was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Post 2022 for more than 40 years.
He had a love for passion projects and could often be found in his apartment hovering behind a magnifying glass putting together puzzles, small mechanical do-dads or reading up on the latest in motorcycles. The Harley Davidson was his favorite, although his ride of choice in his later years was his prized 1963 BSA.
One of his fondest memories was a trip through Sturgis, South Dakota, where he could close his eyes and imagine millions of motorcycles lining the small streets of the historic town in the Badlands.
Jerry was a Ham Radio enthusiast, a hobby he shared with eldest son, Jeffrey and several of his grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Mary Wysong. He is survived by his sister Donna (Ron) Jones of Eaton, Ohio; son Jeffrey (Diana) of Eaton; daughter Angela Adkins of Eaton and several grandchildren and great grandchildren and extended family. Jerry will be greatly missed.
