James D. Johnson, age 74, of West Alexandria, OH, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012 following a lengthy illness. Born in Northridge, Dayton, OH, he was a son of the late Charles & Dorothy (Williams) Johnson. Jim served with the US Navy from 1956 - 1960. He retired in 1996 as a heavy equipment operator working for the I.U.O.E. Local 18. He enjoyed the outdoors, walking in the woods and the creek with his dogs and family. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Charles and Dick Johnson. Survived by wife Shirley A. (Wolfe) Johnson whom he married June 9, 1962: children Robert Gregg & wife Bev of Eaton, OH; Dodie Johnson of New Lebanon, OH; Jeff Johnson & wife Tracy; Mic Johnson & wife Melissa; and Phillip Johnson & wife Angie, all of West Alexandria: 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren: sister Barbara Farmer of Freeport, OH. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, June 15, 2012 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria. Pastor Bart Ellis presiding. Friends may call on the family from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the West Alexandria Emergency Squad or Hospice of the Miami Valley.
