James E. "Sarge" Fetters, 65, & Linda L. Fetters, 69, of Somerville, OH, both passed into eternity suddenly on Monday afternoon, May 23, 2016, doing what they loved to do. Jim "Sarge" was born July 27, 1950 in Tiffin Twp., Adams County, OH, he was a son of the late Leonard M. & Jesse M. (Evans) Fetters. Linda was born January 29, 1947 in Brodhead (Lincoln County) KY, she was a daughter of the late Loyd & Gladys (Howard) Sowder. They married on March 26, 1969, and together raised 4 children. Sarge and Linda were a memorable, loving couple who were deeply devoted to one another. Their greatest strength was the family values they instilled in their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed motorcycle riding from the time they were married and had coast to coast rides several times. Sarge joined the Marine Corps in 1968 and attained the rank of Sergeant and served until January of 1972. He later enlisted in the Army National Guard serving from 1975 - 1992, earning the rank of First Sergeant. He retired in 2006 from the Hot Strip of AK Steel in Middletown after 33 years and formerly served as Vice President for the A.E.I.F. He was a giving man who would help anybody and treated his friends as family. Linda was a stay at home mom and had a huge faith that carried into everyday life. She showed grace to all regardless of their situation and had a way of making those around her feel special. A member of Berachah Church in Middletown, she was known to her church as "The Gift Lady". When her grandchildren visited mammaw and pappaw, she had that special treat ready that each one enjoyed. Jim and Linda are survived by children Denise Barnette of Somerville; Brian (Melissa) Fetters of Dayton; Lisa (Steve) Souers of Gratis; and Amy (Mike) Taulbee of Eaton: grandchildren David "Little David" Barnette, Jr., Sadie Barnette, Casey Miller, Shelby Fetters, Mason Fetters, Hannah Powers, Nathan Taulbee, Sarah Taulbee and Maddy Taulbee: great grandson Maddux Smith: Linda's sisters and brother Brenda (Terrell) Wombles of Cincinnati; Gail (Jack) Bosley of Middletown; and John (Gordon) Sowder of Tampa, FL. Sarge was 1 of 13 children with 3 brothers and 6 sisters surviving. A memorial service will be held 12:00 pm Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria, OH. Pastor Lamar Ferrell presiding. Friends may call on the family from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home. Burial of cremated remains to follow at Fairmound Cemetery in West Elkton. Military honors for Sarge will be provided by both the US Marine Corps and the Preble County Honor Guard.
