Howard M. "Max" DeCamp, age 88, a lifelong resident of Camden, OH, passed away peacefully at his home, early Friday morning, June 14, 2013. Born in Camden, OH, he was the son of the late Faye & Margaret (Overman) DeCamp. Following high school, Max enlisted in the US Navy in June of 1943, serving aboard the USS Baker, a cannon-class destroyer escorting convoys across the Atlantic Ocean during WW II. He was honorably discharged in 1946 at the conclusion of the war. After the war, Max played professional baseball for six seasons as a pitcher for minor league teams affiliated with the Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates. Following his baseball career, he worked as a delivery driver for Suburban Propane in Eaton, retiring after a long career. Survived by children Robin Lynn Evans & husband Richard of Grove City, OH; Darcy A. Williams of Eaton; Louis DeCamp & wife Nancy of Lulling, TX; Lee DeCamp of Eaton; and Susan DeCamp & companion Kenneth Leslie of Huber Heights: 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren: and sister Martha Doan of Florida. Preceded in death by wife and mother of his children Carol in 1970. At the family's request, final arrangements for Mr. DeCamp are private.
