Helen Yount

Helen F. Yount (Van Fleet) of New Paris, Ohio, passed peacefully with her family at her side, on December 22, 2011. Helen was born on May 25, 1926 in Union City, Ohio to the late Elsie Louise Johnson. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter J. Yount Jr., whom she married December 2, 1961. She was the loving mother to Kellie Davis and husband Kevin of New Paris, cherished grandmother to Amber Troutwine and Stacey Davis, both of New Paris, Seth Davis and wife Aimee, and great-grandson Casen of Selma, Indiana. She is also survived by brothers Kenneth Van Fleet of St. Mary's, Ohio, Larry Waldon of Sydney, Ohio, sisters-in-law Margaret Yount of Greenville, Ohio and Delores Van Fleet of New Paris, and a very special daughter-at-heart, Bonita Walker of Kettering, Ohio. Surviving her also are many loving nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Helen was very talented artist and had belonged to the Art Associations of Preble, Darke, Wayne, and Randolph Counties and in Richmond, Indiana. She especially enjoyed painting landscapes and wildlife in oil. She had been a member of American Legion Post #360 of New Paris where she took pride in participating in the women's marching unit. She had also held several offices, including Ladies Auxiliary President with Amvets Post #726, in Eldorado, Ohio. Helen was very proud of her family, especially her grandchildren. Second to that, she loved being creative, carving, crafting, playing cards, and working puzzles. She enjoyed spending time with her husband outdoors, especially at their pond, fishing and camping. All who knew Helen would agree that she had a tremendous spirit and unique zest for life. Helen was preceded in death by her husband and parents; brothers Donald Eugene Van Fleet and Herbert Louis Van Fleet Sr., step-fathers; Denver Van Fleet and Herman Orrison, and her very special grandmother Goldie Johnson. The family will receive friends from noon-2 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2011 at Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens, 3377 U.S. 35, West Alexandria, Ohio with Pastor Bryan Rea presiding. A graveside service will immediately follow.
