Gerald D. Lackey

Gerald D. Lackey, age 68, of West Alexandria, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 31, 2013. Born in Wise County, VA, he was a son of the late William & Elizabeth (Vernon) Lackey. He retired after 33 years from the Frigidaire Division of General Motors; and had also formerly worked for Ambulette and as a security guard at Carrollton Paper Company in West Carrollton. Gerald was a member of Plainview Open Bible Church in Brookville. He enjoyed fishing and camping, and was a big fan of the Cincinnati Reds. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters and brothers Ernestine Pelfrey, Jim Lackey, Joyce Lackey and David Lackey. A loving and devoted family man, he is survived by wife of 48 years Geraldine J. (Back) Lackey: children Ronald Lackey & wife Bonnie of Eaton; Cheryl Means & husband Jeff of Arcanum; Melissa Lackey of Huber Heights; and April Lackey of West Alexandria: grandchildren Michael (Lacey) Ogan, Amy Lackey, Taylor Lackey; Zack (Rachel) Means, Tyler Means; Ashley Cowgill, Brandon Cowgill and Leah Cowgill: great grandson Elijah Ogan: sisters Jane Holcomb of Skimino, VA; Janet Paulette of Meadows Place, TX; Eva Ett of Ipswich, NH; and Nancy Spell of Griffin, GA: sisters-in-law Kathy (Roy) Newberry of Greenville and Carol Guzman of Urbana: a host of other family and friends: and his 4 legged companions. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria. Pastor Josh Grimes presiding. Friends may call on the family from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Preble County Council on Aging's Transportation Program.
