French A. Combs

French A. Combs, 94, of West Alexandria, OH, passed away Thursday morning, April 20, 2017. Born July 20, 1922 in Campton, KY, he was a son of the late India Pearl (Brooks) and Courtney Combs and was raised by his late step father Leslie Combs. A US Navy veteran of WW II, serving in the European African Middle Eastern and the Asiatic Pacific Theaters of Operation. The USS Pasquotank was part of many Asiatic-Pacific operations, including the invasion of the Philippines. He volunteered at the Dayton VA Medical center for 14+ years earning over 1750 hours of volunteer time. He was a Life Member of the D.A.V. # 91 of Lewisburg, member of King Hiram Masonic Lodge # 88, the Scottish Rite-Valley of Dayton and the Antioch Shrine. Mr. Combs retired after 40 years of service from Armco Steel in Middletown. He was a big fan of UK Wildcats Basketball. In addition to his parents and step father, he is preceded in death by son Daniel Combs, grandson Nathaniel Jackson along with other brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Doris A. (House) Combs: daughters Charlotte Taraba and husband Joseph of Lexington, KY; Patricia Davis and husband Dennis of Camden, OH: grandchildren Sean Combs, Kristopher Combs, Eric (Colleen) Combs all of New Hampshire; Christina Taraba and Jennifer Taraba of Lexington; Natalie (T.J.) Selby of Alexandria, KY, Nicholas Feltch of San Diego, CA and Nancy Feltch of Eaton: great grandchildren Ian, Aidan, Emily, Nathan, Alexa and Peyton: step sister Ollie Coats-Barton of Middletown, OH; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, April 24, 2017 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria. Friends may call on the family from 4:00 - 7:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or a charity of your choice.
