Dorothy Moore

Dorothy J. Moore, age 84, of New Lebanon, OH, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, January 22, 2011. Born August 25, 1926 in Derby, VA, she was the daughter of the late Sherman & Mary Elizabeth (Millard) Nichols. From 1945 - 1950, she worked with a doctor delivering babies in Roda and Derby, VA. She married husband Hobert Moore on October 18, 1946. Dorothy retired in 1980 after 18 years as a custodian for the New Lebanon Public Schools. While working, she served as a representative for the OAPSE union in the New Lebanon Schools. After retiring, she, Hobe and family spent an enjoyable 25 years trailer camping at Brookville Lake Resort in Brookville, IN. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Lebanon. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by son Gary Daniel "Dan" Moore on September 13, 1995; brothers Earl, Carl and Ralph Nichols; and beloved family member Betty Back. To Dorothy, family was everything, her life. She was a devoted wife to husband Hobert of New Lebanon: a loving mother to children Linda S. Waldron of Englewood, OH; Harrison A. Moore & wife Carol of New Lebanon; and Michael Hobert Moore & wife Liz of New Lebanon: daughter-in-law Susan Hartman of Farmersville: beloved grandma to Jeff Waldron, Dottie Woodard, Holly Murchland, Jonathan, Melinda, Benjamin, Erin, Micah, Daniel and Mary Moore; and to great grandchildren Kristen Henderson, Kayla Woodard, Kelsey Woodard, Hannah Moore, Danielle Moore, Madeline Murchland, Morgan Murchland and Jackson Moore She is also survived by loved nephews Frank, Earl, John, Pat, Dave and Joe Nichols: loved niece and nephew Sharon Beneke and Tim Back: numerous other relatives and a host of friends. The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Walter Keyes and Vitas Hospice for their excellent care. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria. Pastor James Whorton presiding. Friends may call on the family from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
