Donald B. Owens

Donald B. Owens, age 77 of West Alexandria, passed away, with his family by his side, on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Vancrest Nursing Center in Eaton. Born in Dayton, OH, Don was a son of the late William Evert & Maude (Griffen) Owens. He retired in 2000 after 30 years with the Kern Scale Company in Dayton. Don loved music and was well known for his vocal talent and his harmonica playing. He could also play the auto harp and the ukelele. Along with his wife Annette, they helped to begin music ministries in many area churches. In Eaton, they had attended Memorial Baptist Church, Eaton Baptist Temple, First Baptist Church and First Church of God. They were most recently members of Twin Valley Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by brother Bill Owens of Urbana, OH: and brother-in-law George Courlas of Centerville, OH. He is survived by wife Annette M. (Courlas) Owens, a current resident in the assisted living facility of Vancrest, whom he married November 26, 1957: daughter & son-in-law Donella & Dale Hobbs of Eaton: son & daughter-in-law Greg & Annette Owens of Eaton: 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren: sister Jean Harper & husband Dale of Beavercreek, OH: sisters-in-law Harriet McConnell of Huber Heights, OH; Mary McConnell & husband Arnold of Germantown, OH; brothers-in-law Peter Courlas of Dayton; Timothy Courlas & wife Linda of Columbus, OH: and sister-in-law Linda Courlas of Centerville, OH. Friends may call on the family from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria, OH. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the funeral home with Pastor Greg Jackson presiding. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assn.
