Claude E. Burnside

Claude E. Burnside, 81, of West Alexandria, OH, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Hospice of Dayton, following a lengthy illness. Born October 18, 1932 in Doddridge Co., WV, he was a son of the late Floyd & Ruby (Divers) Burnside. Mr. Burnside retired in 1986 after 33 years with the Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors. He served with the US Army from 1953 - 1955 in Germany near the end of the Korean War. He was a member of the Grace Brethren Community Church and former member of the Poasttown First Church of God. A man who lived his Christian faith, he was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather; and loved to hunt and fish. In addition to his parents, Mr. Burnside is preceded in death by grandson Shaun Michael Burnside: great granddaughter Logan Danielle Snyder: father-in-law and mother-in-law Willis & Beulah Rymer: brothers and sisters George Burnside, Denver Burnside, Roy Burnside, Robert Burnside, Lela Davis and Audra Nicholson. Survived by wife Margaret E. "Betty" Burnside whom he married July 8, 1955: children David Burnside & wife Nancy of Hamilton, OH; Regina Hapner of Eaton, OH; Ruth Gray & husband Tim of Hamilton, OH; and Gary Burnside & wife Pam of Lewisburg, OH: 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren: sister Helen Davis of SC; brothers-in-law Dan Rymer & wife Janet; and Allen Rymer all of Doddridge Co., WV. Funeral services will be held 9:00 AM Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria. Pastor Elbert Sorrell presiding. Friends may call on the family from 5:00 - 8:00 pm Friday, and, 8:30 - 9:00 am Saturday at the funeral home.
