Christine Newland

Christine Newland, 86, of New Lebanon, OH and formerly of West Alexandria, OH, passed away on Friday afternoon, March 12, 2021 following a brief illness. Born December 7, 1934 in McKee, KY, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Lillie (Foulton) Minter. Chris was the type of person who never met a stranger. Her family and friends brought her joy and she loved to spoil her grandchildren. She enjoyed painting, bowling, gardening and canning and was known for her fried dried apple pies. She was a huge fan of Elvis and his music. On September 7, 1956 she married her sweetheart Jack W. Newland. They were married 48 years until his passing on February 22, 2004, and Chris was dedicated to his care through many years of illness. Chris is preceded in death by husband Jack; parents Charlie and Lillie; and by brothers Cart and Clifford Minter. She is survived by sons Gregory K. Newland of Eaton and Billy Jo Newland of Dayton; Greg's fiance Carolyn Hopkins of Eaton, who was like a daughter to Chris; grandchildren Autumn, Amy, Sarah, Jesse, Jennifer, Erika (David), Megan, Kyle, Morgan, Brycen and Rebekah; great grandchildren Kali, Peyton, Ainsley, Laya, Casen, McKenna, Brody, Brayden, Kentlie, Kailani, Jack, Rowan, Kalani, Brayden, Conner; and sister Opal Jean Jay of Richmond, IN. Friends may call on the family from 12:00 - 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at the Preble Memory Gardens Funeral Center - 3377 US Rt. 35, West Alexandria. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Terry Smith presiding, and conclude with a brief closing ceremony at the graveside. Chris will be laid to rest beside her husband Jack at Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery, West Alexandria.
