Charlie Brandenburg

73, of Camden, passed away, Friday, September 6, 2024, surrounded by his family.

He was born July 4, 1951, in Washington DC, to the late Calvin C. and Mildred L. (Louk) Brandenburg.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy; brothers, Samuel Louk, Calvin L. Brandenburg, and Curtis Eugene Brandenburg; grandchildren, Zhane and Zophia Bahnweg; and daughter-in-law, Brandy Brandenburg.

He is survived by his children, Jeff (Lettie) Brandenburg, James (Heather) Brandenburg, Chrissy (Steve) Bahnweg, Mike (Jamie) Paulus; grandchildren, Zach (Shannon) Paulus, Hannah Paulus, Nathan Brandenburg, Trevin Brandenburg, Boone Brandenburg, Clayton Brandenburg, Luke Garnett, Finnley Bahnweg, Owen Garnett, Cashton Bahnweg, Victoria Lowman, and Allie Garnett; great grandchildren, Gunner Amyx and Mayli Vance; sister, Cindy (Williard) Laymaster; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Charlie proudly served in the United States Army for 21 years, with tours in Germany and during Desert Storm. His military career took him around the world, where he developed a deep sense of camaraderie with his fellow soldiers and embraced the challenges of each new post. His years in service were marked by honor, dedication, and an unbreakable bond with his brothers and sisters in arms.

But Charlie's heart also beat to the rhythm of music. He was a gifted steel guitar player and a member of several bands throughout his life. While the steel guitar was his favorite, his love for music knew no bounds—he could pick up just about any instrument and play it with passion. He found joy in sharing the stage with friends, lighting up every room with his talent and infectious energy.

In 1988, Charlie and his brother-in-law, Willard, combined their skills and entrepreneurial spirit to create Superior Wheels, a company they started from Charlie’s very own garage. What began as a small venture grew into a successful business, fueled by hard work and a commitment to excellence. After nearly 15 years of running the shop, they closed Superior Wheels in 2002, but the impact of their hard work continues to live on in the lives they touched.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 10 from 5-8PM at PREBLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL CENTER, West Alexandria.  The funeral service will begin at 2PM on Wednesday, September 11 at the funeral home.  Burial with military honors will follow at Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Cathy.
