Charles R. "Dick" Shimp

Charles Richard "Dick" Shimp, 73, of Eaton, OH, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, May 11, 2016. Born September 29, 1942, he was the son of the late Charles & Leona (Ullery) Shimp. Dick was a 1960 graduate of Dixie High School in New Lebanon, where he participated in football, baseball and basketball. He played on Dixie's first state tournament basketball team and was later inducted to Dixie's Athletic Hall of Fame. He worked 33 years as a tool maker for General Motors retiring from Harrison Radiator. He was a member of the Eaton First Church of God, was a Sunday School teacher and member of the church choir. Dick enjoyed travel and had opportunity to visit the Holy Land three times. He was well known, well respected, greatly loved and will be missed by all who loved and knew him. In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by nephew Wes Root. Survived by his wife Joyce A. (Guinn) Shimp whom he married September 14, 1962: sons Jim Shimp & wife Sandy of Dallas, TX; Jeff Shimp & wife Pam of New Lebanon; and John Shimp & wife Jennifer of New Lebanon: grandchildren Chris Johnson & wife Sarah, Patrick Johnson & Holly, Jodie Shimp, Scott Shimp, Kristen Collins & husband Justin, Brooke Doak & husband Logan, and Austin Shimp: great granddaughter Carley Johnson: sister Sue Root of Germantown, OH. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the First Church of God - 601 E. Lexington Rd. - Eaton, OH.
