Betty J. Murphy, age 79, of New Lebanon, OH, passed away early Sunday morning, January 26, 2014 following a lengthy illness. Born in Mt. Sterling, KY, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert & Fannie Mae (Moore) Peyton. She was a 1950 graduate of Mt. Sterling High School; attended the Sherwood Music School in Chicago where she earned her Certificate of Proficiency in Piano; and was a 1952 graduate of the Kentucky Business College. Betty was a talented pianist and also taught piano for a number of years. She worked for 17 years as a sales clerk at the Rikes-Lazarus Department Store at the Salem Mall in their Fine China and Linens Department. Betty, and husband Albert would travel several times a year to Flager Beach, FL to enjoy salt water fishing at the end of the Flager Beach Pier. Survived by husband of 59 years Albert L. Murphy whom she married June 12, 1954: son & daughter-in-law Brian & Carri Murphy of Germantown, OH: grandchildren Brandy Bicknell (Bill) and Heather Laino (Jake) all of New Lebanon, OH; Courtney Logan Murphy and Jimmy B. Murphy both of Germantown: great grandchildren Katie and Suzie Bicknell, and Orianna and Olivia Laino: sister Pauline Wells of Mt. Sterling: nephew and nieces Bobby, Phyllis and Linda: uncle J.T. Ginter of Mt. Sterling; and a host of other family. Friends may call on the family from 4:00 - 7:00 pm Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria, OH. Betty will be buried in the Murphy Family Cemetery in Ezel, KY on Saturday, February 1, 2014 where a Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am. Pastor Mike Sexton will preside.
