Bertha D. Shanks

Bertha D. Shanks, 89, of Eaton, OH, passed away Saturday morning, March 1, 2014 at her home. Born December 15, 1924 in Dayton, OH, she was a daughter of the late Oliver J. & Ellen F. (Popst) Grutsch. She worked as a custodian for Preble Shawnee Local Schools, retiring after 15 years of service. She was a life member of the Auxiliary of American Legion Post # 215 of Eaton. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death in 1961 by husband John D. Shanks: sisters Elda J. "Dutch" Bricker and Adaline M. Shanks: and brother Warren O. Grutsch. Survived by children Ellen Jones & husband Fred of Eaton; and Rodger Shanks & wife Janet of Franklin, OH: grandchildren Fran Clark & husband Bill of Eaton; John Jones & wife Tish of Eaton; Jeff Shanks and John Shanks: great grandchildren Hannah and Keisha Clark, Adaline Jones, and Ashley Smith all of Eaton: nieces and nephews: and good friends Janet Cook and Dr. Allen DuBro. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria. Friends may call on the family from 5:00 - 8:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
