Bernice Sims

Bernice Sims, age 77, of Eaton, OH, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, September 11, 2011 following a lengthy illness. Born in Uniontown, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Tom & Mable (Bell) Howard. She worked for many years in child care services and was last employed and retired from Preble County Children's Services. Baptized in 1977, she was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Eaton. She loved to travel and was able to visit numerous states and see many sights. An impeccable seamstress, Bernice took great care in all that she made. That great care was also seen in her love for cooking for family and friends. She also served as the family historian, keeping careful records of generations past. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband Willie Sims, Sr. in 1992: step father Will Smith: brothers Cornelius Howard, William Howard, Joseph Howard, and Cleophus Howard: and sister Luella English. Survived by daughter Yolanda Sims of Eaton: brothers Gaston (Minnie) Howard of Dayton, OH and Asberry Smith of Springfield, OH: sisters-in-law Sumothia Howard and Tina Howard both of Springfield: step sons Willie J. Sims, Jr. of Georgia and Robert Heard of California: 4 step grandchildren: numerous nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews; other family, numerous friends; and a large worldwide Association of Spiritual Brotherhood. A memorial service for Bernice will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria, OH.
